Sarah George returns to Richmond to lead Computer Graphics Technology

The College of Technology at Richmond is pleased to announce that Sarah J. George, who served as the visiting assistant professor of computer graphics technology from fall 2006 through spring 2008, has accepted a permanent position with Purdue in Richmond. The location director, Brian Alenskis, said "We are pleased that the CGT department has recognized Sarah's skills and contributions by offering her this continuing lecturer position. We are equally pleased that Sarah has enjoyed working with the students and wanted to continue her academic career with us. This is win-win for everyone." Sarah will oversee the delivery and continued growth of Purdue's popular computer graphics program.

High school students and parents attend Purdue "Day In College" in Richmond

The College of Technology at Richmond hosted high school students and their parents for a Purdue sampler of a "Day In College". This first such event in Richmond took place Aprill 11 at Purdue's facilities on the IU East campus. Participating students had been nominated by their teachers or academinc advisors. After a morning orientation, the group attended one-hour sessions in each of four academic areas: Organizational Leadership and Supervision, Industrial Technology, Computer Graphics Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. A mid-day lunch provided the students a break from their academics. The day ended with information sessions: one on student success for the students and one on financial aid for the parents. Feedback from the participants indicated that the day was both helpful and enjoyable. Purdue's "Day In College" is expected to be an annual fall event for high school seniors and their parents.

Purdue College of Technology in Richmond hosts Purdue TAP Workshops on Process Improvement

The College of Technology at Richmond hosted the first in a series of free TAP workshops on Process Improvement Basics. This initial one, Problem Solving Basics, was held February 8, in Whitewater Hall. It included a discussion of the root cause analysis process, as well as several problem solving tools: brainstorming, list reduction, cause & effect diagrams, and the 5 Whys. These east-central Indiana sessions were delivered by the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), part of Purdue's Technical Assistance Program (TAP). The cost of the six workshops was paid through an EDA grant. Purdue College of Technolgy at Richmond hosted the sixth one on April 21: Winning Ways.

New data acquisition systems for Richmond engineering technology laboratories.

Through significant gifts from the Wayne County Foundation, the Purdue College of Technology at Richmond has been able to acquire the frequency and strain gage modules for its two data acquisition systems. Mr. Kehinde Ikuomenisan-Olatjunti is integrating the new components into the existing hardware, for use in spring mechanical engineering technology classes. The Wayne County Foundation pledged $10,000 toward Purdue's Richmond laboratory equipment during the Campaign for Community. The location director, Professor Brian Alenskis said, "The Foundation's continuing gift is already making a real difference in the education that our engineering technology students are receiving. We are truly grateful for the support provided by the Wayne County Foundation."

Purdue College of Technology in Richmond hosts Purdue TAP Six-Sigma Training for area employers.

The Purdue College of Technology at Richmond welcomed the Technical Assistance Program's MEP specialists to campus to assist local manufacturers with Six-Sigma Greenbelt Training, January 28-30 and February 4-6.

Community Leadership Tour visits Purdue College of Technology in Richmond

On March 11, the College of Technology in Richmond hosted a visit by a number of community leaders. Representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Corporation, and the city/county toured the facilities and learned more about Purdue's academic and economic development roles.

The Advisory Board of the College of Technology in Richmond schedules its next meeting.

The Advisory Board will meet on September 23 in the campus' Community Room.
