Welcome to the Department of Building Construction Management. Thank you for taking the time to visit our web site. Our educational mission focuses on the comprehensive preparation of students for a lifelong challenging and rewarding career in the construction industry.
In order to produce the highest caliber construction management personnel who can effectively handle the gambit of daily requirements to keep a project (and eventually an entire company) running smoothly, we continuously strive to attract and retain the absolute very best students and leading edge industry- experienced faculty.
The construction industry offers one of the most dynamic and fast paced career opportunities imaginable. Such dynamics require our BCM program to be proactive in the development of new technology applications while finding newer uses for existing technology.
The expectations being placed on today's contractors by clients includes such adjectives as better, faster, and cheaper . All the while the industry is faced with shortages of material and human resources in all sectors. The fragmented nature of the construction industry has prompted the need for specializations. We have recognized this niche and offer BS degree specializations in Electrical (ECM), Mechanical (MCM), Residential (RCM), Healthcare (HCM), as well as Demolition and Reconstruction (DRM). Each of these curriculum specialties provides students with focused instruction on identified critical elements for the chosen area.
Internet communications and a global perspective have forced us to ready our graduates for the booming worldwide construction market. Our research and graduate programs serve as our mechanism for staying ahead of the curve.
Industry partners and alumni continue to support our BCM program through donations, guest lectures, scholarships, advisory boards, and active participation in our career fairs and job placement.Coupled with our excellent students, our program enjoys a high placement rate.
Experiential hands-on learning is another vital part to our bachelor's degree requirements. Hands-on laboratory exercises enhance the learning experiences of the curriculum core competencies by improving the understanding of the students by providing a 'real world' environment in which to learn by application, thereby reinforcing classroom and textbook learning experiences. This experiential learning also prepares the student to better lead and manage the skilled craft workers through a higher level of understanding of what it takes to perform their job duties. Our classroom experiences are further enhanced by requiring a minimum of 800 hours of construction work experience for every student prior to graduation.
The BCM program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education, and provides its graduates with the well-rounded education needed to be a future leader in the construction industry. Upon completion BCM graduates are well equipped to make an immediate impact on the built environment.
