Department Head - Department of Aviation Technology (AT)

The College of Technology at Purdue University invites nominations and applications for the position of Head, Department of Aviation Technology (AT) to administer a multi-talented and diverse group of faculty and professionals pursuing a common goal of excellence in discovery, learning and engagement. The successful candidate will be a high energy, visionary and goal-oriented individual to provide leadership through rigorous learning programs, innovative and diverse engagement activities and cutting edge research. The department serves approximately 610 students on the West Lafayette campus offering the BS degree with programs in Professional Flight, Aeronautical Engineering Technology, and Aviation Management and 95 students at the Indianapolis Statewide Technology location. AT participates in the MS and PhD degrees currently administered by the College of Technology.
The successful candidate shall have an earned doctorate or other terminal degree and a distinguished record of research, scholarly accomplishments, professional service, industry and teaching experience. Experience in the aerospace industry or aviation programs at the university level is required along with a demonstrated record of effective leadership. Interest and ability in corporate and alumni development is a plus. The Department Head must have the credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure at Purdue University. This is a 12-month position available July 1, 2009.

Aviation and Aerospace Management Faculty Position Announcement Position #001946-2007
The Department of Aviation Technology at Purdue University is accepting applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor with expertise in the area of Aviation and/or Aerospace Management. Duties will begin in August 2008. Candidates must have a proven record of grantsmanship, academic teaching, and scholarly publication.
DESCRIPTION: The duties shall include but not be limited to: (1) Development and maintenance of a strong applied research, writing, and engagement agenda in collaboration with other departments, other institutions, and industry. (2) Development and teaching in aviation/aerospace-related graduate and undergraduate coursework that focuses on one or more of the following areas: aviation management, labor relations, safety and security issues, economic decision-making, enterprise management, risk modeling and assessment, quality management systems, project management, and aviation human factors. (3) Chairing and serving on graduate student committees. (4) Completing other duties as assigned, including university, college, and departmental committee work and student mentoring.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have an earned doctorate with academic background in aviation management, financial management, or related field. Technical certification and aviation industry experience are desired.

Aeronautical Engineering Technology Faculty Position Announcement - Position #001948-2007

The Department of Aviation Technology at Purdue University is accepting applications for a tenure track assistant or associate professor. Duties begin in August 2008.
DESCRIPTION: The duties shall include but not be limited to: (1) Development and teaching of undergraduate courses primarily in either one of two signature areas; gas turbine engine maintenance, operations and manufacturing, or composite structures fabrication, repair, and manufacturing in a regulated FAA Part 147 maintenance curriculum. Additional emphasis on aspects of engineering technology may apply to these curriculum areas, as well. (2) Development of near term (1-3 years) related funded applied research and engagement with government or industry, and establishment of a. strong applied research, writing, industry/government engagement agenda, and cross-functional collaboration with related engineering science departments at Purdue and/or other institutions. (3) Developing and teaching graduate courses in aviation/aerospace related areas, and serving on graduate student committees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Science degree with either the B.S. or M.S. degree in technology, engineering, management, or related fields will be required. (Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D.) The successful candidates must be able to demonstrate the abilities to meet the job description given above. All candidates must have a proven record of academic teaching, curriculum development, scholarly publications, conference proceedings, and successful grantsmanship. Candidates should have a proven track record of engagement, grant writing, and/or research with either government or industry. The applicants must possess an FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Purdue University is a Land Grant institution dedicated to Learning, Discovery, and Engagement. Aeronautical Engineering Technology within the Department of Aviation Technology is one of three areas of study: Professional Flight Technology, Aviation Management Technology, and Aeronautical Engineering Technology. The Aeronautical Engineering Technology section of the Department of Aviation Technology serves approximately 200 undergraduate students, and has the mission of developing leaders in aerospace manufacturing and applied design, as well as leaders in the management, administration, and performance of aviation maintenance. The Aeronautical Engineering Technology curriculum in the department is currently working toward ABET engineering technology accreditation and plans to retain its FAA Part 147 aviation maintenance curriculum as a significant technical component of the engineering technology accreditation. The Department of Aviation Technology also offers a Masters of Science in Technology with an emphasis on aviation and aerospace related topics. The Department of Aviation Technology engages in applied research with a number of government and industry partners. Faculty are expected to be active in teaching, laboratory development, and partnership in funded applied research. The Aeronautical Engineering Technology program is nationally recognized in the training and education of graduates who become successful leaders in aerospace engineering, repair engineering, aviation maintenance management, and other aerospace related careers. A balance of hands-on teaching, combined with engineering technology and funded engagement is the key to this success, and the successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the ability to be successful in all three of these areas.

Continuing Lecturer Positions

Flight Instructor Position Announcement

Purdue University is seeking qualified candidates for 12-month, non-tenure track faculty positions as continuing lecturers (flight instructors) in the Department of Aviation Technology. Applicants must possess a current Flight Instructor certificate and at least a Third Class Medical. An Instrument Flight Instructor certificate (CFII) is preferred. An earned bachelor’s degree is also preferred.This position requires instruction of students in aircraft, assessment of student performance, conducting stage checks and supervising night flying activities.
