About Us
Welcome from the Department Head

Dr. NewtonWelcome to the Industrial Technology Department at Purdue University!  We are very proud of our Department and our home, the College of Technology.  The College is one of the largest of its kind in the world and provides a rich environment for building the ideal cross-disciplinary technology and business oriented programs - exactly what our degree programs are designed to do.  Our Department has top-ranked Industrial Technology (IT), Industrial Distribution (ID) and Engineering / Technology Teacher Education (ETTE) programs in the country that are designed to prepare graduates for a wide range of positions.  Each of these programs are supported by state-of-the-art laboratories.  We are proud to be home to one of the leading biometric labs in the world, the Biometric Standards, Performance, and Assurance Lab (BSPA).

The programs in our Department are focused on real-world instruction of current technology and how to use it effectively to solve problems. We have close ties to industry, and industrial guests and speakers are regularly brought into the classroom and student association meetings.  The goal of our programs is to turn out graduates well prepared for industry….and we have exceptionally high placement rates to prove it!

Undergraduate students can earn a B.S. in Industrial Technology, Industrial Distribution or Engineering / Technology Teacher Education, and we offer a minor in Biotechnology.  Students interested in pursuing graduate education may pursue a M.S. or Ph.D. in Technology specializing in any of the above disciplines.  We also offer a well-known and fast-growing Weekend Master’s Program for working professionals interested in studying Technology.  While our undergraduate and graduate students enjoy lab experiences from many different departments in the College, the IT Department houses four labs that are designed to teach students advanced technologies in supply chain management technology, biometrics and automated data capture, engineering / technology teacher education and biotechnology.

For working professionals, we offer a Weekend Master’s Degree Program in Technology.  The program is structured to provide students the opportunity to earn a Master of Science degree in just 22 months.  Participants follow a fixed plan of study with a cohort of 25 students.  Course delivery is a hybrid of on campus and distance learning methods.  Students are required to be on campus for three weekends each semester (two in a summer semester).

In addition to the formal academic offerings, the department sponsors student organizations, field trips, and other extracurricular activities supportive of students' academic and professional development. Co-op and internship opportunities are also available for our students, as well as study abroad programs in Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Our programs are designed to contribute to and reinforce the student’s confidence, commitment, competence, creativity, communication skills, culture and character as they apply these attributes and skills after graduation to get the job done professionally.  For more information about our programs, please contact our program advisor, Mr. Craig Mallet at (765) 494-4002 or cmallett@purdue.edu. We would also be delighted to set up a tour for you and I would be happy to talk to you personally about our programs.

Best regards,

Kathy
